Call for Submissions: Summer

Call for Submissions:

Taking inspiration from Charles Olson’s 1950 essay Projective Verse, 24Pearl: The Magazine is seeking submissions for its summer issue that have been composed “by field.”  We want “open verse” that has been composed according to breath, and engages the full width of the page.  As Olson writes, “the poem itself must, at all points, be a high-energy construct, and at all points, an energy-discharge.”

Don’t worry prose writers!  This issue is not exclusively for poetry.  Why not write prose according to breath?  Why not view prose as “a series of objects in a field” or “a series of tensions?”  Don’t let the word verse scare you away!  Send us your fragmented narratives, and experimental essays.  Send us the absence of narrative, and the sonically charged sentence.

The deadline for submission is midnight on Friday, June 21.

New deadline is midnight on Friday, July 12.

24Pearl is an online magazine that seeks to publish exceptional works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction from the students and faculty of 24PearlStreet’s online classes.  Building on the Work Center’s tradition of creative excellence and community, 24Pearl provides a space to continue the conversation outside of the classroom.

Submission guidelines:

Please send all submissions as a word document, or .DocX format only.

For poetry please submit 3-5 poems.  For works of fiction and non-fiction we ask that submissions are no longer than 5,000 words in length.  However, please feel free to send a selection of a long story, or up to three short works.

Please email all submissions as attachments to lewis24p@fawc.org, with the subject “Summer Submission.”

In the body of the email please include your bio/cover letter, as well as the term, title of your course(s), and name of your instructor(s) at 24PearlStreet. Your submission need not be related to a particular course.  And all submissions will be considered for forthcoming issues of the magazine.

We look forward to reading your work!
